Podcaster Joe Rogan is facing backlash for past racial slurs and COVID-19 misinformation on previous episodes.
Spotify responded to the controversy after Neil Young requested his music to be removed from the app on Jan. 24. The CEO of Spotify believes that completely censoring and dropping Rogan is not the solution, and warnings will soon be added to podcasts discussing COVID-19 to combat misinformation.
Numerous episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience that featured slurs were then removed. Spotify and their exclusive deal with Rogan is estimated to be worth over $100 million.
Rogan has since apologized for the slurs, stating “Now, I haven’t said it in years…But it’s not my word to use, I’m well aware of that now,” according to Sky News.
