The Palomar College Performing Arts website said they pride themselves in the schools’ diversity, which seems to be the same theme for the roster of Concert Hour this semester.
Palomar Performing Arts hosts Concert Hour every Thursday, bringing in a variety of performers from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. in either D-10 or the Howard Brubeck Theatre. It is free and open to the public.
The first performance was a jazz improvisation on Sept. 4 by three local (and internationally known) musicians Gunnar Biggs, Gilbert Castellanos and Peter Sprague.
“What’s really unusual about this particular performance is (it was) a jazz trio that (performed) without a drummer,” Randy Hoffman, publicity coordinator for the theater, said.
From a Midwestern Trio to organist extraordinaire Michael Munson, this semester promises both divine quality and entertainment for everyone who attends, Hoffman added. The works range from classical to pieces written by David Bowie to appeal to a wide audience.
“What I always try to do with Concert Hour is to show how big the world of music is, which is a daunting task,” Hoffman said.
The next Concert Hour will be at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 in D-10 and will feature quartet Son de San Diego. For more information or future performances, visit palomar.edu/performingarts/category/concert-hour.
