In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Palomar officials announced that classes are set to transition online following the March 23-27 Spring Break.
Classes will resume on March 16, 17 and 20. March 18 and 19 will be non-instructional days for faculty training. Faculty members will discuss and learn about how to utilize alternative methods of instruction like online, conference calls and via email.
Jack Kahn, Palomar’s Acting President, wrote in a campus-wide email that the goal is to minimize “opportunities for exposure as much as possible.”
Here’s what students should know:
- Faculty are yet to decide how lab, clinical and internship classes will be held with limited face-to-face interaction.
- Events with more than 100 persons in attendance will be canceled until further notice
- Sporting events will continue, but spectators will not be allowed at the fields
- Students who rely on the Disability Resource Center will be able to work directly with the center to provide specific accommodations to attend alternative methods of class.
- For students with no personal internet access, Palomar will provide low cost ($10 a month and free installation) internet access through AT&T. The plan will be available for those with one member in household using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
- Palomar’s Foundation will provide emergency grants from $100-$200 for students who need assistance with technology. Students can apply for an emergency grant here.
