Palomar College– Netflix premiered “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf” on Aug 23. Based on the novel, “The Witcher,” written by Andrzej Sapkowski, the adult gothic animation is produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and directed by Kwang II Han.
“The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf” is animated by the production company, Studio Mir. The production company has also produced other notable Netflix animations such as “Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts,” “Voltron: Legendary Defender,” and “Doda: Dragon’s Blood.”

The lead voice cast stars Theo James as Vesemir, Jennifer Hale as Illyana and Lara Pulver as Tetra. Geralt, from the live action, fantasy, action-adventure Netflix series, “The Witcher,” will make an introduction in the animated adaptation of “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf”, and will continue to make an appearance as an important role in the story.
Although the animated adaptation is an adult gothic fantasy, there is also romance and adventure that develops throughout the story. Vesemir, the Witcher, along with his childhood sweetheart, Illyana, seek to find an escape from their home village, before Vesemir encounters the monsters that seek to destroy everyone in their path. In a turn of events, Vesemir will once again be reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Illyana, although there will be a major change in their meeting that changes everything
“There will always be another monster,” said Vesemir to a young Geralt, who will learn the ways of the Witcher in fighting monsters for coins. The village children are recruited to defend their hometowns while earning a generous payment. The various deadly monsters that the Witcher encounters include leshen, basilisks, mares and many more dangerous foes throughout the forests, mountains and villages. Many villagers have died from encounters with these monsters, so everyone depends on the Witcher for their safety and protection.
Becoming familiar with the various monsters the Witcher fights to defend the villagers may be a challenge at first. But, as you enter the world of the Witcher, you will soon learn how to tell a leshen from a basilisk and the different techniques used to destroy them and send them back to the world it came from for good.
“The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf” discreetly makes its premiere in anticipation of the second season of Netflix’s live action series, “The Witcher,” that will be released Dec. 17. The much awaited second season of “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf,” will follow soon thereafter.
