“The Christmas Chronicles 2” was released on Nov. 25 and is a follow up of Netflix’s “The Christmas Chronicles.”
Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn, Darby Camp and Judah Lewis all return as the characters they played in the first film.
This movie hurts itself right from the start. You see Belsnickel (Julian Dennison) planning his scheme in his lair, and this sets up how predictable this movie is.
The film then leads us to Cancun and we see Kate, Teddy and their Mom (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) and are introduced to her boyfriend, Bob (Tyrese Gibson) and his son Jack (Jahzir Bruno).
Kate immediately shows how disappointed she is that her family is spending Christmas in Cancun with her mom’s boyfriend and son. Belsnickel sees this and uses it as an opportunity to get into the North Pole.
Belsnickel acts as a resort employee and sends Kate and Jack to the North Pole setting his plan into motion.
This movie is below par from what I expect from Netflix originals. The story is really simple but not in a good way. It feels like it was half-assed and only made to try and piggyback off the success of the first one.
They don’t use the older brother Teddy at all in the story, but I think Netflix filmed “The Babysitter: Killer Queen” at the same time they filmed “The Christmas Chronicles 2,” which is understandable.
One thing that really irked me about this movie is how predictable it is. The “plot twists” are so easy to see that anyone could have spotted them.
The acting in it isn’t bad but that isn’t enough to save it.
I don’t recommend watching “The Christmas Chronicles 2” and would recommend watching the first one or another well-established Christmas movie.
Happy Holidays!
