The Guardians of the Galaxy are back for a bigger and closer adventure.
The film is directed and written by James Gunn. The entire cast from the first film such as, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, return to their roles for the sequel. They are joined by new-comers Kurt Russel who plays “Ego” and Pom Klementieff who plays “Mantis.”
The film takes place about 4 months after the events of the original film. A series of events are set loose as soon as the team finishes a job for a highly dangerous race named The Sovereign. Later, we meet Peter Quill’s father, Gamora faces her adopted sister Nebula, and the fate of the universe is yet again put in danger and the Guardians have to save it once again.
This is the third film from the third phase and the overall 15th film of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe.” The film touches on various dark, emotional, and amazing moments that are an upgrade to the original film and exceeds prospectors’ expectations.
While the first film was mostly about setting the team and its foundations, this one establishes Quill’s past and the answer to the question of why did he survive while holding an Infinity Stone. Also, throwing in major plot twists that change your whole perspective of the film.
Director James Gunn has stated since the first film that the most important aspect of this franchise is music. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has yet again another “Awesome Mix” with music from the 60’s to the 80’s with some enjoyable tunes like “Mr. Blue Sky,” which is played during the opening moments of the film; The absolute tear-jerker and the most important song has to be “Father & Son” of which was, in an emotional level, the most relatable song in the whole movie and you will see that when you get to sit down and watch the film.
As per usual in the “Marvel Cinematic Universe,” there are Easter eggs of which fans will love and also, other Easter eggs for non-fans of the comics. The appearance of “Howard the Duck” is actually in the movie, only limited to a small cameo yet again. There is a small connection to “Thor: Ragnarok” during the end credits and people will enjoy this, if they don’t miss it, that is. The film is the first to also feature 5 post-credit scenes and all of those scenes have a special connection to the future and also they are there for laughs.
As a final result, the film exceeded in every aspect what I thought about it before even going to watch it. Gunn really nailed handling one of the best sequels of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hopefully, we will see more of the team in the next two years for the “Avengers” sequels and the third Guardians movie.
