Escape the the hectic and chaotic pace of life by enjoying a quality cup of joe in a quaint, off-the-beaten path local coffee house and eatery.
The Old California Coffee House and Eatery goes beyond the typical coffee stop. It provides actual meals, ranging from breakfast scramblers, fresh fruit, soups to sandwiches and wraps, and even caters to vegetarians and vegans. It has a little something for everyone.
It was voted the “Best Coffee Shop in San Diego 2011 – 2014” by ABC and 10 News. It was also ranked third for coffeehouses in The San Diego Union-Tribune’s “San Diego’s Best 2015” reader poll.
Want more than coffee? The cafe has a breakfast scrambler, 3-cheese pizza, quiches, acai bowls and yogurt. The Backyard Club has turkey, bacon, avocado, provolone, a few vegetables all on toasted sourdough bread.
Vegetarian options can be challenging to find when deciding where to dine out. Here you can get a baked balsamic tofu sandwich with several vegetables, sprouts, all on wheat bread. Vegan? You can get vegan mayonnaise. There is also a Mediterranean sandwich and a Southwest or Falafel wrap.
“I actually love the cafe honestly, it is a great place to go. I’ve gone there to both study, and play Magic the Gathering,” said Palomar student and digital broadcast major, Jesse Sotelo, 18.
Perhaps you want to go out on a Friday or Saturday, but all the local parties seem like duds. Well, the Old California Coffee House and Eatery has you covered. Every Friday and Saturday, it opens up several fire pits where live bands perform.
This could be a romantic place for a first date, or a chill place to hang out with friends without worrying about the turn up scene.
“They also have a variety of instruments on the wall that you are free to play!” exclaimed Sotelo.
If you need to escape a house full of screaming children, your Xbox is taunting you to just play one game of Destiny, or you need to focus on studying for your next test, then retreat to the coffee house.
“We really pride ourselves on taking care of the customers,” assistant manager, AJ Miall explains. “We want customers to feel comfortable.”
The cafe is located at 1080 W. San Marcos Blvd, San Marcos, Calif. 92078. Or browse their website for live band information or menu and drink options at http://oldcalcoffee.com/.
