Having enrolled in a full class load and drafted a new constitution for the Associated Student Government, ASG Vice President, Amber Bancroft, has set her eyes on the position of president.
“I believe the number one role of ASG is student advocacy,” Bancroft said. “And making sure that every single student gets the right to an education and sees representation of themselves in their classes.”
As Vice President, Bancroft ensures that every department in the ASG is doing their job and that all policies are up to date. In addition to being vice president, she has also taken charge as the ASG chairperson for the Policies and Procedures committee. This semester in particular she has utilized her position to help update the ASG constitution.
“I wanted to help implement the new constitution that I helped write,” Bancroft said. “I understand what each position needs to do.” She believes that a smooth transition to the new constitution will lead to more events and legislation to benefit the Palomar student body.
”That project has been spearheaded by Amber and we couldn’t have done it without her leadership,” current ASG President Chris Hopp said about writing the new constitution. “She is ambitious, hardworking, and extremely dedicated to improving the lives of Palomar students.”
Bancroft is a bio engineer major with little time to spare. She has a full load of classes and a job in the stockroom at the chemistry department on campus so most of her time is spent at school. “I have a calendar app that sends me notifications when I need to be doing something. I also have a really good support system,” Bancroft said in regards to how she manages the work of being vice president in addition to being a full time student.
With the ultimate goal of ASG president, Bancroft has created a mission for not only herself, but also for the next generation of ASG members. If elected Bancroft would like to turn the Palomar campus into a polling destination during the political season, and also has plans to help start a community garden on the campus.
