Spring sports at Palomar have been put on pause as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to a release published Friday on Palomar’s athletic website, the California Community College Athletic Association has indefinitely suspended practices and competition for all spring sports and any nontraditional sports seasons.
“It’s important that we look out for the well-being of our student-athletes,” said Keith Curry, Chair of the Board of Directors.
The CCCAA Interim Executive Director, Jennifer Cardone, said the Board of Directors understands the impact this decision will have on student athletes. It will be working to minimize the effects to eligibility for the CCCAA in addition to four-year institutions.
“We regret the effect this has on our outstanding student-athletes and the hard work and dedication they’ve invested in their seasons,” Cardone said. “However, we feel it’s in the best interest of our student-athletes to take this action.”
No practices or competitions will be held over the next two weeks, including spring break. Following break, the department will actively seek clarity.
