The Palomar College Governing Board met to discuss antiracism efforts on campus on Feb 2.
During the Zoom meeting, the Board members talked about their plans for the future and their accomplishments in the past while working to create an antiracism culture at Palomar College.
Interim Superintendent/President Dr. Jack Khan was very pleased about how much they have accomplished. He said, “Now folks, this is just since October. So I just want to make sure you are clear about that just since October and the campus was closed half of the time, just to make that super clear.”
One of the topics discussed was the robust Black History Month program for the campus and community put together by the Palomar Black Faculty and Staff Association (PBFSA). This program is meant to educate and empower the community through a number of Black History Month workshops.
These workshops will cover a variety of different topics ranging from Mayoral Candidate, Rob Howard discussing how to be more active in politics, mental health services and an open mic night to celebrate Black Excellence.
Palomar officials are not stopping there with their progress and are eager and looking ahead into the future. In the spring, Palomar police are partnering with the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) to have a Law Enforcement Community Connection workshop.
The Police Academy is doing a diverse candidate and mentoring project to recruit and retain more diverse students in the police academy training program. Palomar police are also forming new partnerships with the ESL and TLC.
