Zhiyuan Jiang, a 22-year-old Computer Science major from Hangzhou, China, was killed in an early-morning vehicle vs. pedestrian collision on April 10.
He was traveling northbound on the sidewalk on Las Posas Road and Grand Avenue when he was struck by an oncoming cement truck. Responding paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene.
Yasue O’Neill, International Services coordinator, said Jiang was a very helpful student who spent a lot of time in the International Students office.
“He was like one of our children; he felt very comfortable here,” O’Neill said.
Before attending Palomar, Jiang graduated from North Broward Prepartory School in Florida. After attending Purdue University for his freshman year, he went back to China. He started attending Palomar in the spring of 2013.
