Students sometimes limit themselves for just checking out books, but in reality it’s a hub for resources geared to help students succeed in their academic career.
The library can help with research
Librarians and staff are available to help students to locate resources for their classes.
Assistance is stationed at the reference desk, located to the left of the information desk, where students can ask questions about specific subjects or research topics.
The Palomar library gives students access to an online chat with real librarians, and paid databases with studies such as peer-reviewed articles and other information for their schoolwork.
Extra help for students
I use the Library’s tutoring services on the second floor. Reading & Writing Center offers help with writing, speech preparation and reading, while STAR General Tutoring supports other subjects such as psychology, nursing, ASL, accounting, music and history.
The tutors were helpful by catering to the researched topics for my public speaking class by directing me to the Library’s databases to gather peer-reviewed studies for the presentations I had to deliver.
A place to focus
Additionally, on the fourth floor is an area for Quiet Study Zone where students will have zero distractions from their classes, having a solo workspace to their personalized education, exam preparation or improve on study habits.
It’s usually full of students studying in different seating areas but there’s plenty of available seats. There are ten study rooms in total with five on each side, but a reservation is required with a study partner to be used.
The library is officially called the Learning Resource Center, located next to the Humanities building, where it’s open at 8 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
