SAN MARCOS — Palomar College officials issued a “Timely Warning” to the campus community Wednesday evening following a physical assault at the San Marcos campus library.
The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on March 4, when an unidentified male engaged a student in a physical fight.
According to campus authorities, the attack was unprovoked; the victim reported having no prior contact or relationship with the suspect.
The victim sustained injuries during the altercation, though the severity of those injuries has not been disclosed.
The suspect fled the scene on a bicycle before law enforcement arrived.
He was described as a Hispanic or Middle Eastern male, roughly 40 years old, standing 5’4” and weighing approximately 130 lbs.
The suspect was seen with a red and black backpack and riding a black beach cruiser with a front basket. The basket was marked with the number 559 in white lettering on the right side.
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act, the college is urging students and faculty to exercise heightened caution. Palomar College police recommend walking in groups, staying in well-lit, populated areas and keeping vehicles locked at all times.
It remains unclear if the assailant is affiliated with the college.
