SAN MARCOS — Back-to-back Sophomore Night ceremonies will be held on Friday, Feb. 20 in the Dome for the men’s and women’s basketball teams to celebrate the soon-to-be graduating student-athletes.
Both Comet basketball teams rank second in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) while their opponents each hold first place.
Kicking off the night’s events, the Comet women’s team will face off against its rivals, the MiraCosta Spartans at 5 p.m.
Palomar women’s basketball is 10-1 in conference matchups this season, with its only loss being a 65-62 defeat at the hands of MiraCosta. The Spartans are undefeated overall this season, but a win for the Comets would even the teams’ conference records.

Mandy Frozina, Kylee Trujillo and Kailani Flournoy are the only sophomores on the women’s roster and will be recognized before tipoff.
Trujillo led her Comets’ team in scoring in 2025 with 397 points, and leads the team again this season with 408.
On the defensive side, Flournoy broke the single-game rebound record for Palomar College with 26 rebounds on Jan. 23 against San Diego City; her 13.3 rebounds per game this season are the highest in the PCAC.
Following the women’s match, the men’s basketball game will take place at 7 p.m.
Like the women’s game, this is a matchup between the top two teams in the PCAC. The men’s opponent, San Diego City, is 15-0 in conference play, and has defeated Palomar twice this season.

Four players will be honored in the Sophomore Night ceremony: Isaiah Tolmaire, Tore-Andre Gray, Isaiah Pomare and Jaidyn Norman.
Like Flournoy, Pomare is a rebound machine and has been a top-five leader in the PCAC for rebounds per game in both of his seasons as a Comet.
The men’s team was knocked out of the postseason in the first round in 2025, but a win against San Diego City could lead to a better seed this year.
The playoffs begin the week of Feb. 23, but matchups have not been finalized.
As it stands, neither of Palomar’s basketball teams are set to host a game in the postseason so the games on Feb. 20 may be the last chance for the sophomore players to leave it all on their home court.
