SAN MARCOS — Comets baseball ended their matchup on March 19 in triumph as they defeated the Grossmont College Griffins 12-6, extending their conference record to 10-0.
This was the second meeting between the teams this week, with the Comets winning the first matchup on March 17 by a score of 21-12 at Grossmont College.
Gavin Kramer (#1) and Braedon Peterson-Cheek (#8) got things going for the Comets’ offense, scoring in the bottom of the first inning to give Palomar a 2-1 lead.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, Grossmont pitcher Joshua Swikard hit Comet Elijah Stephens (#39) with a pitch to bring DC Ruth (#23) in to score.
Palomar’s next batter, Michael Rodda (#36) put the lead at 5-1 on a 2-RBI single that brought in Kramer and Peterson-Cheek for their second runs in as many innings.
Grossmont tied the game with a four-run third inning, but couldn’t hold back the Comets’ relentless offense as Palomar jumped to a 10-5 lead by the end of the fifth.
With a final score of 12-6 the Palomar Comets celebrated back-to-back victories over Grossmont and added onto their 10-game win streak against conference opponents to remain in first place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
