February construction to disrupt North County train rides

North County Transit District (NCTD) will suspend all coastal rail services this month to perform railroad maintenance.

Periodic closures of the Coaster for track maintenance and repair are common.

OCEANSIDE — NCTD’s COASTER service between Oceanside and San Diego will be suspended from Feb. 21 to 22, with regular scheduled service resuming on Feb. 23.

Weekend closures are scheduled throughout the year to allow construction crews to work safely and complete maintenance, preventive improvements, and advance major railroad construction projects.

“Residents along the corridor should remain alert, and the public is reminded to only cross the rail line at lawfully designated rail crossings,” NCTD stated in a press release.

While no passenger or freight trains will operate during the weekend closure, other test trains, construction vehicles and equipment will be active throughout the weekend.
