About The Telescope

Do you want to see your work in print or published on the web? We welcome all students to become part of The Telescope team. The campus newspaper has been reporting on Palomar College for more than 60 years. We serve as THE archive of Palomar College.

The Telescope is student-run and supported by advertising. We do NOT take money from the administration for printing. That ensure that the newspaper is free of control or manipulation. Students can objectively cover news, sports, arts and opinion related to Palomar College. We have also recently implemented Spanish coverage.

The Telescope no longer prints a physical newspaper but it does print a campus magazine called IMPACT. All of our news coverage can be found on this website and on our social media sites. There are opportunities to learn to report, write, use social media, take photos, create podcasts and videos and learn mobile journalism.

If you want to be a part of this team, there are two classes you can take:

1.   Journalism 105, 205, 210, 215, which are all 3-unit lecture/labs that meet together from 11-2 p.m. Tuesday/Thursdays.

2.  Journalism 130, which is a 3-unit online course.

If you’d like to join or have questions about being on the staff, contact The Telescope’s adviser, Erin Hiro, at (760) 744-1150, ext. 3762, or by e-mail at ehiro@palomar.edu.

If you have questions about photography, email our Photography Adviser Melinda Finn at mfinn@palomar.edu.
