SAN MARCOS — On March 27th, California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) hosted the 11th annual Mangrum Track and Field Invitational, where athletes from over 20 different Schools competed across 40 different events.
Kacey Tarlton, who competed in both the 200-meter dash and the pole vault, was the only representative athlete for Palomar College at the Mangrum meet. She faced off against familiar junior colleges like Cuyamaca College, and larger four-year universities like CSUSM and the University of California, Riverside.

Tarlton was able to beat her previous personal record of 30.24 seconds with a new time of 29.92 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
Jessica James from Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) won first place in the event with a time of 24.26 seconds.
The podium was rounded out by Veronica Campbell of Concordia University Irvine (CUI) who finished second with a time of 24.93 and Coryssa Hope who finished in third place with a time of 25.08 seconds.
Tarlton also competed in the pole vault but was unable to clear the hurdle and received a “No Height” score on her attempts.
CSUSM freshman Danielle Patrick won first place in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.69 meters. Kendra Williams of CPP and CUI’s Addison Barker placed second and third, respectively.
Tarlton represented Palomar at a meet where over 20 different schools—including four-year universities—brought their best athletes, and although she did not make the podium for her events, she still managed to achieve a personal record in the 200-meter dash.
The Comets’ next competition will be the regional championships for the California Community College Athletic Association.
