The San Diego Padres just acquired starting pitcher Mike Clevinger, outfielder Greg Allen and another player to be named later from the Cleveland Indians. In exchange, the Padres traded pitcher Cal Quantrill, catcher Austin Hedges, outfielder Josh Naylor and three other players.
Mike Clevinger went 13-4 with a 2.71 ERA across 21 starts last season with the Indians. This year, he has gotten into some trouble with violating COVID-19 guidelines and spent some time away from the team.
The Padres knew they needed one more dynamic starting pitcher to go along with Chris Paddack, Dinelson Lamet, Zack Davies and Garrett Richards. Padres acquired catcher Austin Nola, relief pitcher Austin Adams and relief pitcher Dan Altavilla from the Seattle Mariners.
Padres in exchange, traded outfielder Taylor Trammell, catcher Luis Torrens, third baseman Ty France and pitcher Andres Munoz to the Mariners. Austin Nola this season has five home runs, a .306 batting average and a .379 on-base-percentage across 29 games. After trading away Austin Hedges, and Luis Torrens, who are both catchers, Austin Nola is the catcher for the San Diego Padres to get it done offensively.
