Freshman wrestler Erik Collin and sophomore volleyball player Maci Lerno were chosen as the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference’s Male and Female Athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 26.
Collin, currently ranked fifth in the state in the 165-pound category, won the championship in the same category at Cuesta College’s Meathead Movers tournament on Oct. 25. His performance helped seal top honors in team scoring for Palomar in the tournament.
He also beat Erik Roberts 5-3 in a Southwest Conference match against Santa Ana College. His performance helped Palomar win the match, earning the team’s first conference win of the season.
Lerno, the team’s middle blocker, had a combined 33 kills and 31 digs in consecutive wins over San Diego City College and Mt. San Jacinto, moving Palomar into second place in the PCAC behind Grossmont, which is currently ranked third in the state.
