The men’s golf team placed second overall for the season and in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championships with a score of 769, right under College of the Desert with 761.

The PCAC finals were on April 28 at Canyon Crest Country Club. With the Comets final score the golf team has advanced to the Southern California Community College Regional Championships on May 5 according to Palomar’s official athletic website.

Aaron Whitely, Kelly Cannon and Cullen Clifford have made “all conference by finishing in the top 10 season long scoring average,” according to Head Coach Mark Halda.

Highlights of the season were not too rare for the men’s golf team. Bryce Haynes was named Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Athlete of the Week on April 7. Haynes medaled with a 69, helping Palomar win its first conference match on April 2. He also medaled with another 69 during a non-conference match against Riverside City College.

During the first home conference tournament at Twin Oaks Golf Course on March 19 Whitely medaled with a 1-under par, 71. Cannon medaled twice in conference matches while his brother Mitch Cannon medaled in a non-conference match against Riverside on March 26.

The Comets won their second conference match on April 16 with a total score of 373 with the help of Brian Cole who shot a 1-under par, 71. College of the Desert scored eight over Palomar with a 381.

According to the Palomar website the top two Southern California team finishers and individuals will move on to the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships on May 12 at The Victoria Club in Riverside.
