Palomar softball was dealt a crushing blow to finish its 2012 season.

After defeating Long Beach City College, the team finished the season in a two-way tie for second place with Southwestern College, and the Comets (20-12, 11-4) were not given the hoped-for at-large berth for playoffs, ending its season.

The team was ousted by Southwestern based on overall series record between the two teams; Southwestern won the season series 2-1.

Playoff directors decided that the 12-0 win during an earlier game in the San Diego City College tournament would not be counted because the game ended due to time after just four innings- one inning short of the five-inning regulation.

Pacific Coast Athletic Conference champions San Diego Mesa and Southwestern College will advance to the playoffs.
