Diver qualifies as All-American

Published on May 08, 2012 with No Comments

Palomar diver Liam Acosta qualified as an All-American diver on April 26.

Acosta placed seventh overall for the 1-meter board in the state championships. Acosta scored 223.7 on the board, qualifying 12 points for Palomar’s overall score for the swim team. The top eight divers qualified as All-Americans.

Acosta, who is Palomar’s only diver, was unable to compete on the 3-meter board. During the practice rounds for the meet, Acosta hit his head on the board, according to his father. Determined to score points for his team, Acosta received an MRI. When the doctor determined that there was no injury, he went out on Friday with a modified dive schedule to protect his head.

Acosta will now move on to dive in the state finals.
